Children at Merry Hearts Summer Un-Camp spend the summer playing with friends, splashing in creeks, playing in mud, building with sticks and climbing trees! Days are lead by your child’s interests, based in play and facilitated by loving, encouraging and playful guides.
Our home base offers sand, mud, gardens, chickens, rabbits, a playground and room to run. Within walking distance is a field with climbing trees, tall grasses, and a lazy creek. Children will be gently guided to make decisions about the day together, based on compromise and consensus.
After lunch, we’ll enjoy some down time to rest our bodies, tell stories, sing songs, draw, paint, work with wood and enjoy making things with the collection of bits and pieces available on our craft bench.
We call all of this “UN-CAMP” because many camps for children these days are highly structured, whisking children from one activity or station to the next. We value an easier pace and the essence of a childhood summertime from days gone by.
Each camp “week” offers a 3-day adventure on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Children between ages 3 and 8 are invited to come play together. (MH Alumnae Welcome!)
Adrianne Wallace, a seasoned early childhood educator of the past 18 years will be your child’s guide- remember: your children are the leaders! along with Mary Alice Blythe- a playful learner who loves children and the great outdoors.
